Welcome everyone to the first Annual Kapital Kidvention! This convention is for magicians, face painters, ventriloquists, clowns, and balloon artists. The convention will begin at 5pm on January 27th and will end after a Stage Show on January 29th. We will have something for everyone there!

A Magical Approach to Problem Solving

When it comes to solving problems, magician David Ben says we must first eliminate the word “impossible” from our vocabulary. That’s why he takes participants behind the scenes of the world of magic, revealing tricks of the trade that magicians, card cheats, and psychics use to perform the seemingly impossible.

Ben compares the secrets of magic with the secrets of success. He demystifies the problem-solving process, using the metaphor of magic to empower participants with new ideas and techniques that help in creative and pragmatic problem solving.

Ben is a magician, keynote speaker, former tax lawyer, and author of Advantage Play: A Manager’s Guide to Creative Problem Solving.

February 6th Meeting – Lecture by Lawrence Hass

Lawrence Hass is an extremely accomplished magician and is a philosophy professor at Muhlenberg College with a passionate commitment to the art of magic. This distinctive combination has given rise to a series of activities, projects, and programs that celebrates the intelligence of the magical arts and brings them to a wider audience. He has performed his astonishing, artful magic in venues from Las Vegas to the East Coast, both on the stage and close up. Jeff McBride said, “What you are doing will be talked about for decades”. Larry's essays on magic performance and theory have been published in leading magic magazines, including MAGIC, The Linking Ring, M-U-M, and Hokus Pokus (Switzerland). In 1997 he received a "Special Merit Award" for the essay "The Illusion of Technique" from The Linking Ring. In 2001 Larry received the prestigious Howard Bamman Trophy from The Linking Ring. He has recently completed his first, full-length book for magicians, “Transformations: Creating Magic Out of Tricks”. His book is listed as number 2 in the top ten best selling books in Genii magazine.

At Bob Fitch's Master Class, you will be a spectator watching and listening as the master works with one student at a time. (You will not be the student -- only observing). The student performs a single prepared routine and the master then gives them direction on how to improve it, often including demonstrations of certain advanced techniques, and helping the student discover solutions to technical errors or weak spots.. The student may be asked to try several approaches to a problem section to determine the best solution, this class will be about doing.. Bob says his primary goal is to help put more of “you” into “your magic.”
